The Poverty Line

A few months ago I was preparing a series of articles about Slums in Egypt. Iwent to visit different areas including Establ Antar, Shabramant, Imbaba and El Warak. The gap between the people living there and others living in richer
neighborhoods is huge.

Slums' dwellers lie awake at night. Not only due to their dire conditions that prevent them from sleeping but also the fear of today, the present and tomorrow - the future. I reflect on the Human Rights articles and wonder who's responsible for these people. But that’s when I find out that it is our own social policy. Social policy is the base opportunity for people to develop; yet, there is an increase of hardship for the vast majority of the Egyptian population to progress.

Thus, poverty continues to transmit from one generation to another. It seems like if you live in a slum area you will continue living there and upbringing your children there, be a target of low standard living and disrespect from the community unless the government interferes.

In the 21st Century there are more poor people who live in urban areas. This has led to sharp divisions among different social groups. In an article published in Al Ahram weekly 3 years ago, the writer endorsed the need for the Social policy in Egypt to immediately change so that all people have the same equal opportunities
provided by the Government.

But I can conclude that unless there are people who get the basic human needs; the policies does not provide the adequate opportunity to Egypt's young people, widening the gap between the rich and the poor.

As a result, I question the liberty and security Article no 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states. Slavery is enforced by the huge difference between the societies. Torture and cruelty are unconditionally imposed on poor people as they are forced to live an inhumane life.
